Meet the Doctor

New Bern Chiropractor | Dr. Amy Gatlin

“I grew up in a chiropractic family…”

I grew up in a chiropractic family and being healthy seemed to be as easy as asking my Dad for an adjustment, which he would quickly correct and tell me no, he would check my spine first.

As I grew older, I began to notice society’s treatment of chiropractic and when I was in high school, a popular journalist did an expose piece on chiropractic. I was stunned because the things he said chiropractors were doing was nothing of what I had observed of my dad. I decided then that I was going to law school to become involved politically and defend chiropractic. I enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill and placed into a higher level English course (of which I was proud) and proceeded to have my writing completely critically destroyed which made me rethink my ability to write. Well, I wasn’t discouraged for long, because I discovered I liked biology better, so I would just become a chiropractor!

My Father Was My Inspiration

I first stepped into the chiropractic world to fight the naysayers and now I am the least confrontational person you could meet and avoid the political scene. But my father was such a loving person who was so fulfilled by his work and he would repeatedly say that he just loved his job! I would be happy to live a life that even skimmed the surface of how happy he was to be a chiropractor! So, I suppose you could say I became a chiropractor out of a selfish motivation to attain the level of happiness that I observed my father to have.

My Education

I did my undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill and then went to chiropractic school at Life University of Chiropractic in Marietta, GA. I discovered I really enjoyed anatomy and physiology and was and still am completely awed by the complexity of the human body.
